Kansas City is known for its kindness. That's why FOX4 and RaisingKC kicked off the “Cup of Kindness” Campaign spotlighting children's mental health, as we welcomed the world to KC!

Kansas City, the winner of the "Kindness Cup", welcomed the world with our FOX4 "Cup of Kindness" Campaign thanks to the generosity of AdventHealth KC and Johnson County Community College.

As it became official that Kansas City would be a host city for the World Cup, organizers of the RaisingKC public health campaign approached their media partner FOX4 with an idea:  Let’s build upon our “KC is the Kindest City” reputation as we connect with our international visitors and raise KC up to be kind and nurturing for all!  So to help our community welcome visitors from across the globe with confidence and kindness, RaisingKC and FOX4 are launching “The Cup of Kindness” Campaign.

Two 30-second public service announcements were created featuring Kansas City youth from around the bi-state area, including  members of the SevenDays® Kindness Youth Leadership Team, welcoming our visitors in the four languages of the base teams’ countries…

  • Welkom! (The Netherlands)
  • ¡Bienvenidos! (Argentina)
  • Mrhbaan! (Algeria)
  • Welcome! (England)

The PSAs described how “Kansas City is known for our kindness, and as the winner of the ‘Kindness Cup’, we are welcoming the world…because no matter where you’re from, you are welcome here!”

The art of Ampersand Design Studio is brimming with kindness. You can see it here in our new Cup!

Campaign launched June 12.

FOX4 was the official local station for the World Cup. According to Loren Halifax, FOX4’s Evening News Anchor, “Our commitment to raising the mental health of our community made this RaisingKC partnership so special to us.  We aired the ‘Cup of Kindness’ Campaign throughout the World Cup, thanks to the generosity of AdventHealth KC and Johnson County Community College.”

RaisingKC is a public health initiative of the Raised with Love and Limits Foundation.  According to Barbara Unell, the Executive Director of the Foundation, “As a mom, dad, doctor, coach, teacher, neighbor, bus driver, friend, or family member… in our community, you literally raise children up to be kind, caring, resilient humans through your supportive relationships with them. And in the process, you also raise the mental, physical and behavioral health and well-being of all who call KC home. RaisingKC is dedicated to helping adults build those relationships every day to ensure children know they matter and those who raise them matter, too.”

The RaisingKC public health campaign is led by the Raised with Love and Limits Foundation, a national 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting safe, stable and nurturing adult-child relationships to prevent toxic stress and adverse childhood experiences.

The Johnson County Board of Commissioners recognized the RaisingKC Cup of Kindness Campaign!

On Thursday, July 23rd, our Cup of Kindness Campaign was recognized by Johnson County Mental Health Center Director Tim DeWeese and the Johnson County Board of Commissioners with an official proclamation.  The proclamation recognizes the RaisingKC Cup of Kindness Campaign for celebrating the power of kindness, welcoming communities and supporting the importance of safe, stable, nurturing relationships for children and families. Joining RaisingKC organizers, sponsors and partners were the amazing kids who starred in the Cup of Kindness Campaign and their families.

What’s next for RaisingKC starts with the hanging of our RaisingKC Quilt in the Hearing Room where the Johnson County Board of Commissioners holds its meetings.

As Chairman Kelly said when he first laid his eyes on the RaisingKC Quilt, “That Quilt should hang in these Chambers and every time the Board meets, we should ask the same question, ‘how is our work today making our community safe, stable and nurturing?’”

It’s been our dream every since and now that dream comes true!

The Quilt was also on display in the Johnson County Administration Building in September for Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
