Olathe Public Library
The origins of the Olathe Public Library trace back to the Ladies Reading Circle, established in 1883. In 1889, members of the Reading Circle initiated their efforts by securing a six-month loan of 50 books from the State Library. By 1909, the library’s development gained formal recognition when the mayor and city council appointed a twelve-member library board, officially founding the Olathe Public Library. The committee sought assistance from Andrew Carnegie for the construction of the library's first building, which opened its doors in 1914, housing 4,500 books.
Fast forward to 2024, the Olathe Public Library System has grown significantly, now encompassing two major libraries with a combined total of over 84,000 square feet.
