From Johnson County Community College last June, to the Grand Hall of the Union Station and now to…

The B.E. Smith Family Center at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, during the Week of the Young Child 2025, April 5th-11th, recognizing the importance of the early childhood years in shaping children’s learning and development.

“With our partners at Fox4, RaisingKC continues to shine a light on the many organizations that are helping all of us build Safe, Stable and Nurturing Adult-Child Relationships,” said Barbara Unell.  “The B.E. Smith Center is one of our region’s shining examples of an organization that focuses on RaisingKC’s public health campaign: Safe, Stable, Nurturing Relationships are the #1 way to prevent toxic stress and positively impact lifelong health, learning and behavior.”

According to Amy Milroy, “We featured the RaisingKC Quilt in our lobby during The National Association for the Education of Young Children’s “Week of the Young Child”, a celebration of young children, highlighting the needs of young kids and their families and celebrating kids all over the world and those who have an impact on young kids.”

The B.E. Smith Family Center features:

  • The Early Learning Center, which is AdventHealth’s employer-based childcare for those who work at the hospital and,
  • The Britain Development Program that serves children with disabilities from all over the Kansas City area and beyond.

“We were excited to display the RaisingKC Quilt here,” added Sondra Wallace.  “With our ParentCare programs here at AdventHealth, we want to elevate the experience for families who come here every day by sharing with them a visual representation of caring adults and how they build Safe, Stable, Nurturing Relationships with children.
